Rutgers - in - Washington
Watch a recent interview with the RIW Coordinator (2006) and a former RIW participant, which aired on February 21st on "Inside Rutgers" on RU-tv

Sponsored by: Rutgers University Office of Federal Relations and Career Services
Washington DC Established in 2000, the Rutgers in Washington Program (RIW) is designed to enhance the experience of Rutgers students interning and living in the Washington DC area for the summer. The program provides a forum for students to meet other interns, network with prominent Rutgers alumni, and to explore DC through numerous events. It serves as a resource and support system to interns, providing professional and cultural outlets and facilitating social experiences.
Congressman Frank Pallone, former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer and Christine T. Whitman, EPA Administrator, number among the many distinguished speakers to participate in past RIW events There have been private tours of the CIA building, professional baseball games, lunches at the Supreme Court, and social gatherings with interns from other universities; scheduled events are as diverse as the desires and interests of the participants!

While the RIW program does not identify internship opportunities for students, Career Services can assist you in your internship search. A great way to get started is to schedule an appointment with a counselor at Career Services to discuss your internship search and career goals. In addition, the Career Services website has numerous career related links that can aid you in the intermship search process.

Living in DC can be expensive, but cost alone should not deter you from this valuable opportunity. If money is tight, consider interning for 20 hours per week and finding a part time job for the other 20 hours a week.  This will allow you to earn money while gaining internship experience.
